Tintinhull

Tintinhull is a village located 2.5 miles from Yeovil. At the last census, it had a population of 1,124.

Tintinhull was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, although there is a lot of evidence that people have occupied this area for a long time before that. The landscape has had at least 2,000 years of farming carried out on it.

For such a small village, there is a surprising amount of amenities for the residents to enjoy. The school in Tintinhull has around 100 students. There is also a swimming pool, a park, and shops for the residents of the village.

A lot of the village of Tintinhull was constructed from the same material; Ham Stone. This means that the colour is much the same throughout the village. Most of the village was constructed during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. Perhaps the most notable building being Tintinhull House.

Tintinhull House attracts 25,000 tourists each year. It is perhaps best known for the beautiful gardens that it boasts, something which was not in place until he 20th century. The harden has been separated into several distinct sections, and the area has been worked on ever since by several professional gardeners. This is one of the youngest gardens included in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Tintinhull Court

Tintinhull Court

Tintinhull Court is the other ‘stand out’ building in Tintinhull. This building has gone through several renovations over the years. It, at one stage, belonged to Henry VIII who then sold it on. Although it is a stunning building and currently has Grade I listed status, it is a private residence.

The Church of St Margaret was built in the 13th Century. It is a grade 1 listed building. There used to be another church standing on this site, but it was demolished in the 12th Century. The building used to belong to Tintinhull Court, although they have long since been separated.

The Parish Council is responsible for most of the issues within Tintinhull, with Somerset County Council being responsible for education. Yeovil County provides the MP for the village of Tintinhull.
